General Manager of Fleet Repair and Maintenance Division

SUMMARY:
We are seeking a proven industry leader to oversee and grow our Fleet Repair & Maintenance Division. This operation services gas vehicles, medium-duty trucks, and Class 8 semis with a team of approximately 15 technicians.
The General Manager will hold full operational and financial responsibility for the division. This includes technician performance, workflow efficiency, customer relationships, pricing strategy, cost control, and overall profitability.
This is not a wrench-turning role. This is a leadership and P&L position requiring both technical credibility and business discipline.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Leadership
- Oversee daily operations of a 15-technician fleet service shop
- Manage workflow, scheduling, and bay utilization
- Improve labor efficiency and billed-hour performance
- Reduce comebacks and warranty-related losses
- Ensure safe, compliant, and organized shop operations
Technical Oversight
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Diesel engine diagnostics
- ECM and emissions systems (DEF/DPF/SCR)
- Electrical troubleshooting
- Drivetrain and hydraulic systems
- Preventative maintenance programs
- Communicate clearly and effectively with technicians using industry terminology
- Evaluate repair strategies for cost-effectiveness and quality
Financial & P&L Management
- Full profit and loss responsibility for the division
- Monitor and improve:
- Labor gross margin
- Parts margin
- Technician productivity
- Revenue per bay
- Overhead control
- Develop pricing structures and fleet service agreements
- Drive sustainable revenue growth
Team Development & Accountability
- Lead and mentor shop foremen and technicians
- Recruit and retain skilled diesel mechanics
- Establish performance metrics and accountability systems
- Build a culture focused on productivity, professionalism, and customer service
Customer & Fleet Relations
- Maintain and grow commercial fleet accounts
- Develop preventative maintenance programs for fleet clients
- Build long-term partnerships with key accounts
- Identify opportunities for expanded services
QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred candidates will demonstrate:
- 15–20+ years experience in diesel, heavy-duty, or fleet repair operations
- Prior leadership of multi-technician service teams
- Strong financial literacy and experience managing shop P&L
- Deep understanding of shop KPIs and labor efficiency metrics
- Proven ability to lead experienced technicians with credibility
- Strong decision-making and organizational skills
- High integrity and accountability

Compensation base is $90,000 salary plus performance incentives.
