SUMMARY: 

To lead and manage all companies in training and assessments to ensure the appropriate standards of Animal Well-Being and handling are introduced and implemented at the farm level.  To ensure resources and training are available to allow the company to meet the standards and requirements set forth by the National Pork Board’s Certification programs as well as those of the harvest partners and the end user.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Training, Assessment and Conflict Resolution 

  • Coordinate TQA and PQA+ training to meet company needs
  • Train new employees on animal welfare and animal handling expectations
  • Maintain database of training and verification programs
  • Resolve animal handling issues through phone conversations and site visits
  • Investigate animal handling and well-being complaints
  • Recommend corrective actions
  • Understand and hold growers accountable for compliance 

Site Audits, Assessments and Risk Management

  • Assure that all supplier sites are audited/assessed as required
  • PQA+ Assessment
  • Standard Industry Audit
  • Customer expectations
  • Conduct internal audits of processes that impact animal welfare, including handling and transportation of pigs in and out of production sites, buying stations and packing plants. 
  • Maintain and file electronic and paper assessment records
  • Compile reports from database as needed 
  • Coordinate 3rd party Validus and GAP audits
  • Work with customers on specific AWB audits and special needs
  • Develop action plans and timelines for continuous improvement
  • Share results and summary reports with management

Recruiting, Promotion and Development

  • Maintain necessary training certifications to teach and develop employees
  • PQA+, TQA and PAACO Advisor/Auditor Certifications
  • Represent the company at industry events 
  • Attend seminars and conferences related to company business needs
  • Coordinate and conduct tours for outside stakeholders/visitors
  • Attend company promotional events

QUALIFICATIONS:

College Degree and/or experience in Food Animal Production, preferably in the swine industry or other ag-related field. This person must be able to multi-task and handle stressful situations in a busy office atmosphere.  Effective methods of knowledge transfer must be demonstrated as training employees is a primary function in this position.  Thus, effective planning, time management, initiative, organization, and dependability are necessary attribute to be successful in this position. This position requires the ability to work with a diverse population, so a positive attitude, overall friendliness, compassion for and understanding of people is a must in this position. Computer literacy is important with competencies in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Access and Internet Explorer.

Currently have and maintain a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
